Advent and Christmas
Hey guys, what are your thoughts on the Christmas season? It's said that originally the advent season was one full of fasting and longing to be nearer to our redeemer. My question is where did this longing...and the striving which was a part of it go? Is there any life-giving potential left in this season or is it lost to consumerism? I would love to hear your thoughts...

I believe that a lot of hope is restored to many people through this season, whether it has fallen to consumerism or not, there is a lot of good that happens that we don't hear about all the time, but there are some very generous people out there that make a lot of people feel loved.
I agree that even within the church the story of Jesus has been consumerized. It is true that in some ways Jesus has been deduced to a plastic figurine in a manger scene. However I do believe that it is possible that the true story of Christ can be redeemed back into our culture and ecspecially back in the church. I think thats part of the story anyway right? I guess that just starts with us, worshiping not with buying but with longing and being representations of hope for those without in our communities and the rest of the world.
